About Us

Our Story

Established in 1983, Gowise Print retains original partners Joyce and Ken Gorvin and their son, Nick Gorvin who joined the company in 1991. With a healthy mix of experience and new technology the company has retained its core values of remaining lean and efficient with customer service our main priority.

Our staff are equally long serving and remain dedicated to our company values with a comprehensive skill-set and flexible approach.

Unlike other printing companies focused entirely on four colour process printing, we are proud to continue to also provide spot colour litho printing, mixed by hand and matched by eye in the traditional manner.

Not totally entrenched in the past, we always keep a keen eye on the fast-paced technological changes in the world of print and will continue to evolve whilst preserving our traditional trading values. Every customer is treated with the same level of quality service and our aim is that every job is printed bespoke as good as it can be.

As a responsible business, we take a serious interest in our impact on the environment and our operation is fully carbon offset. More details of our environmental considerations can be found here and we will continue to take a keen interest in not just our own environmental thinking, but also that of all our suppliers and our customers too.

Meet The Team

Founders Joyce and Ken Gorvin remain partners in Gowise and although no longer present in the day to day running of the company, are always on hand to offer their opinion and experience.

Ken began his training as a printer in 1957 and has mentored both Jason and Liam in both litho printing (including spot colour printing and mixing inks by eye) and also letterpress printing where there remains a requirement for die cutting and creasing.

Perfectly complementing Ken’s extensive print knowledge, Joyce’s instinctive business acumen ensured immediate success in the early days and set the bar for the long-term stability of the company. Joyce handled all the non-printing aspects of the company from customer liaison to book-keeping (which she still does today) and passed her experience on to her son when he successfully joined his parents at Gowise in the early 90’s.

Nick Gorvin (and Cody)
Nick Gorvin (and Cody)

Joined in 1991 and is the third partner in the company. Nick mirrored the position of his mother when he joined and remains responsible for the day to day running of Gowise. He operates a very much “hands on” approach and is active in almost every process of the company including meeting existing and potential new clients, quoting, artwork, digital printing, finishing, invoicing and even deliveries. Cody joined the team in 2014, claimed the visitors’ sofa as his own and has risen to head of customer relations. As one of our foremost company representatives he is responsible for a healthy amount of repeat business and customers insisting on collecting their own jobs to see him. Always first to the door to meet any visitor and very partial to ginger biscuits.

David Abery
David Abery

Joined Gowise in 2005 bringing with him a wealth of experience in artwork, design and print production. A vital element of quality printing is the artwork and design so we are very pleased to be able to offer these services in house. When artwork is supplied, it is vital that it is checked and correctly processed for print. We are skilled at spotting potential problems at an early stage and helping to work around them. Working with Nick in the front office, David is also an accomplished digital printer and equally the first point of contact for visitors and telephone callers. With a calm, considered approach he often provides a healthy counterfoil to Nick’s particular “hands on” style! David also has a good deal of knowledge of our finishing department, prepared to lend a hand in production where necessary.

Jason Rope
Jason Rope

Joined from school in 1989 as an apprentice and has effectively worked at Gowise longer than anyone! With an unrivalled skill set in printing and finishing, Jason trained under Ken as an apprentice and has ensured that Ken’s litho and letterpress printing skills are preserved for many years to come - but this is certainly not the limit of his talents. As Gowise has evolved, particularly in the expansion of their book finishing department, Jason has added to his print knowledge operating a range of bindery and print finishing equipment.

Liam Blackwell
Liam Blackwell

Is also a long standing employee joining in 2001 and has received the same level of training in litho and letterpress printing as Jason, together with training on our range of finishing equipment. With some excellent daily “banter” he and Jase efficiently process virtually all the litho production and finishing work between them, frequently swapping roles and equipment to ensure a sharing of knowledge and ongoing efficiencies.
