Gowise produce 'famous family' history book...

Book Signing

“Now and then we are very privileged at Gowise to be trusted with a print job that is just that little bit different to the everyday stationery and brochure work. In the autumn of 2009 we were approached by Jo Hiller representing two families who had worked extremely hard to compile a near 300 page document of family history, memories of the current surviving members and a wealth of photographs.

What made the job even more interesting was that Jo had a rather famous uncle, Kenneth Wolstenholme who was a very prominent sports commentator and television host of his generation and gave us probably one of the most famous lines in sports commentary ever at the 1966 World Cup final “some people are on the pitch, they thinks it’s all over.... it is now!” as Geoff Hurst thundered in England’s fourth goal. We were treated to many an interesting story of ‘Uncle Ken’ during our production meetings.

A great deal of hard work compiling text and scanning pictures had already been done by the family so we were very pleased to add our expertise in taking this precious file and turning it into a book that every member of the family could be proud of. The book was printed entirely in full colour on our Xerox 700 digital press which took a few days of printing. 33 copies of the book were produced.

We did not cut corners by printing the old black and white pictures in greyscale, as any old picture although black and white does carry those lovely warm yellow and red hues that give them their authenticity. Every page was printed colour. The 288 A4 pages were bound in a full colour card cover which was laminated and inside the back cover, a pocket carried a carefully folded three and a half foot long family tree.

The job became Les’s baby and really did come out a treat. All that remained was a nail biting trip on an overnight courier to the family get together in Cornwall. Great relief when the boxes arrived safely and we were equally thrilled to receive the feedback below and the pictures of the family enjoying a very special book indeed.

It was a great pleasure to produce and we thank the family for allowing us to share the experience on our website.

Here is the feedback we received...

" Dear Les

This is to let you know that we are all SO GLAD with the book. A wonderful printing job. Well done.

And at our launch everyone was so impressed. I attach a few pictures showing people seeing it for the first time. You can hardly imagine how much it means to us all. The book represents history that would not ever, otherwise, have been written, and also - probably Jo did not tell you - we have managed to bring together the children of two utterly estranged families as a consequence of our writing and research.

So, the book is a commemoration in so many ways, and its beauty is a delight.

If you do not have time to look at all the images, the most important one is 'Receiving the Book' which shows people getting their very first look at it. The one of Susan shows her looking at a picture of herself as a newborn child, and the other images show people signing each other's books.

Thank you

Cathy
